1942 Ford GPW Script Jeep.
For sale is a 1942 Ford GPW. Jeep is in “as found” condition. Jeep is fairly complete and a good start for a groud up restoration or keep it as is and just make it pretty.
This GPW has been in long term storage. Has not run in several years. I gave this jeep the 30 minute look over and this is what I have observed.
Not a matching numbers jeep. The serial number on the data plate does not match the number on the frame (see pictures). The engine does not seem to be a GPW engine. The engine turns over easily by hand. I have made no attempt to start this jeep. Has T84 transmission and Dana 18 transfer case. It is possible that the rear panel of the body has been replaced.. it just looks to be too good. The tub is a GPW tub. Includes rear seat. The frame is in better than expected condition. I did not see any rust through. The frame under the battery tray looked solid (this is where the frame is often in poor condition). The frame is a GPW frame. Lots of F marked bolts and parts. Floor is typical with rusted hat channels and some floor panels but this body tub would hold up to a nuts and bolts restoration (my opinion) as I have seen much worse. One of the windshield legs is “soft” indicating it has been repaired and will need it again. Has wrong oil bath air cleaner (M38 style).
Still a very nice and mostly complete jeep for a jeep that is 71 years old. My opinion is simply based on the jeeps that I have seen over the years. This one is not in factory class condition, but is a good place to start.
Take a look at the many pictures above. You can click on each image for a larger view. Jeep is available for international purchase or come with a trailer and pick it up. I will try to work with any buyer that needs to arrange shipping.
